Sorrow and Bliss
Shortlisted for the Women’s prize for Fiction.
I really loved Sorrow and Bliss, it’s incredibly funny, heartfelt, witty, sad and hopeful - and is written in a hilarious style similar to Phoebe Waller Bridge’s Fleabag.
Meg Mason describes Martha’s mental illness and depression in the best way I have read, describing the inaccuracy of diagnoses and treatments in a darkly funny way. Even though the illness is never named the highs and lows, the anger and anguish that Martha faces exudes out of the pages without appearing too sombre.
I couldn’t put it down and read it over a weekend. Definitely read!
