the God of Small Things
A magical, magical book. It is beautifully written and is full of sadness, anguish, emotion and humour. The story is rich in Indian history, and jumps from past to present effortlessly as it lays out the foreboding and inevitable ending.
I finished it not wanting it to have ended. It’s an enchanting novel and really recommend. 10/10.
Some of my favourite lines:
They all tampered with the laws that lay down who should be loved and how. And how much.
The sky was orange, and the coconut trees were sea anemones weaving their tentacles, hoping to trap and eat an unsuspecting cloud.
Two happy hearts soared like coloured kites in a skyblue sky.
Insanity hovered close at hand, like an eager waiter at an expensive restaurant
A History-shaped hole in the Universe through which, at twilight, dense clouds of silent bats billowed like factory smoke and drifted into the night.
