This novel follows three sisters — Avery, Bonnie, and Lucky — as they grieve after the death of their fourth sister, Nicky. While the characters are somewhat predictable (the wild model, the serious lawyer), the plot is really engaging. Coco Mellors writes emotion and passages beautifully. As with Cleopatra & Frankenstein, themes of addiction and family grievances are central, and Mellors herself says “addiction is something she never chose to write about, but cannot escape” (she’s been sober eight years). It’s full of hope in the face of adversity, and really lovely on the importance of family and siblings. I enjoyed Blue Sisters, and personally more so than Cleopatra & Frankenstein.
